Teacher Interviews – Jack
1) Why did you decide to teach in China?
Having beforehand travelled to New Zealand for two years, upon returning to the UK, I found myself in limbo, when one day I saw advertisements for job posts for teaching positions in China. I decided to go for it and over 3 years later I’m still here loving every minute of it.
2) What advice would you give someone looking to start their teaching journey here in China?
– Either talk to someone who has previously lived and worked in China or join groups on Facebook, they really helped me. Make sure to download helpful apps and defiantly a good VPN before you leave. Learn basic Chinese, and almost certainly try the food.
3) Who is your biggest inspiration within the teaching community?
– In my former school, one of my colleagues would go above and beyond to help everyone and anyone. She would greet everyone with a hug every day and always ask how you were feeling.
4) How have you found the experience of dealing with recruiters over here in China?
– I have had both good and bad experiences with dealing with recruiters, you will find many of them to be very pushy and they will do their utmost to secure you go with them. Upon finding Kieron it was like a breath of fresh air. He was like none of the above and has been super helpful.
5) Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years’ time, I see myself with a PGCE settled down teaching in a school in Canada.
