An insight into an English teacher’s journey

Interview questions were answered by Nokwanda – an English teacher over here in Beijing, China. About to embark on a new role as a Homeroom teacher at a highly regarded Chinese International School here in Beijing.

Why did you decide to teach in China?
– I wanted to travel and experience a different lifestyle before settling down at home and my friends were already in China and reading what other ex-pats had to say I decided that China is the best place.

What advice would you give someone looking to start their teaching journey here in China?
– The lifestyle in China is different but also great. If you want to experience traveling and being around children at the same time this is the place to be so don’t be shy, just come and try to get all the apps you need 😊.

Who is your biggest inspiration within the teaching community?
– My consumer studies teacher from high school, she made teaching look fun and easy and she always made the lessons relatable.

How have you found the experience of dealing with recruiters over here in China?
– Generally, very good, they are usually very fast and work to get you the best job possible for your requirements.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
– Probably in another country teaching.

On behalf of everyone at Ignite. We would like to thank you for your time in providing an insight into the whole journey. Good luck with your next chapter!
